Portland Orchestral Society

The Portland Orchestral Society was formed out of a desire to offer a venue where local area musicians can play and enjoy classical and popular music, and to perform occasional concerts for the Portland community. The Portland Community Orchestra is open to musicians who can play at either an intermediate or advanced level.

We've come a long way since our first organizational meeting on March 31, 2005.

Seven musicians turned out at the Peppermint Twist to get acquainted over a great cup of coffee and to begin planning the Portland Orchestral Society's future. Today we have a board of directors and 24 active members, a dozen or so at each rehearsal, with more joining us each week.

We welcome and especially encourage musicians who have played in high school or college and have not played in several years. This is a great opportunity to rosin up your bow or get your lip back in shape and play again! We also welcome youth and high school musicians who can demonstrate that they are able to play at an intermediate level.

Our maturing orchestra is now performing concerts for local events and several of our musicians have been asked to perform in weddings and other local celebrations.

Portland Community Orchestra rehearsals are held each Thursday evening throughout the school year from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Portland United Methodist Church, 310 E. Bridge Street, Portland. 517-647-4649 (downstairs).

Plunge was a great success!

A dozen people jumped into a hole cut in the frozen Grand River this year to raise money for PCAC programming.  Thank you, all you brave souls!  We'll have footage and photos soon.
